Biography
Originally from Ireland, I am a recent graduate of the Masters Degree in Musical Direction with Leeds Conservatoire - specialising in actor-musician work and piano accompaniment. I was the Musical Director to three productions while in training in Leeds Conservatoire - "Boys Will Be Boys" (dir. Erin Carter - Dec 2022) and two new musicals staged as part of the Leeds Theatre Festival in July 2023 - "Layla" (dir. Maria Flynn) and "The Flood" (dir. Lucie Raine).
Prior to training as a Musical Director, I worked for 14 years in secondary school education, teaching Music and Maths and working as MD for several school shows, including "My Fair Lady" and "Grease". I also worked as a session musician in many different ensembles, most notably as Keys/Guitarist/Vocalist and MD with the function band "The Brian McDermott Band".
Although piano is my main instrument, I am self-taught on several other instruments including guitar, drums, bass, button accordion and alto saxophone.
