Biography

I am a queer, NYC-based classically-trained violinist and musician (violin, viola, vocals, guitar, electronics, auxiliary percussion), improviser, composer, creative audio producer, and teaching artist. I spend my time working in and exploring the intersections of sound, music, community, and storytelling, with a special love for scoring, live performance, podcasts and oral history. I'm a classically trained violinist, with a Bachelor’s degree in musicology and composition from the University of Chicago, a Master’s degree in contemporary performance and improvisation from the New England Conservatory of Music. I am also a U.S. Fulbright alum (2018-19).

Recent work as a musician and composer include consistent subbing with The Plymouth Philharmonic; multiple original scores for Audible Originals; live-scoring and performing at the popular podcast festival On Air Fest 2024; composing and performing a live score (for electroacoustic violin, vocals, found sounds, and electronics) for documentary artist Sayre Quevedo’s performance of “Orexis: A Manifesto” at UnionDocs in Queens, NY; and serving as the violinist and vocalist for the run of Emmy Award winning company Manual Cinema’s 2023 production of “A Christmas Carol,” at Writers Theater in Chicago, IL. Additional performance credits include playing with blues/indie rock outfit Half Gringa (since 2018), and performing often with musicians and singer/songwriters from around the world, including with Aisha Burns (USA), Dani Larkin (Northern Ireland), Lykanthea (USA), MICHA Música (USA), rapper/spoken word artist Orakle Ngoy (Congo), qanun player Afarin Nazarijou (Iran), vibraphonist/composer Julian Loida (USA), and with trumpeter/improvisor Kelly Bray (USA). I've opened for Iron & Wine during his Back to Basics tour in July 2023, at SXSW as a 2022 official artist with Half Gringa, at the Taste of Chicago festival (opening for The Flaming Lips), the 2018 NPR Tiny Desk Contest: Chicago Showcase, and performances at various popular venues including Jordan Hall (Boston), Joe’s Pub (NYC), Steppenwolf Theater (Chicago), The Black Box (Belfast, Northern Ireland), at the Chicago Museum of Contemporary Art, and more. I have extensive experience both in professional and home studios, and my playing can be can be heard on many songs and albums. I have a solo electroacoustic performance project that incorporates violin, vocals, guitar, pedals, found sound, and electronics, which can be heard on my first solo EP, “For Now”.

I've taught violin, improvisation, and songwriting across the US and internationally, both privately and with nonprofit organizations, including in alternative juvenile detention centers and youth detention centers for undocumented minors seeking asylum in Chicago; co-facilitating workshops in refugee camps in Athens, Greece; with the City of Boston (Songwriting Workshops with LGBTQIA+ seniors); at the New England Conservatory; and more.

Some of my audio producing, editing, sound design, and engineering work can be found in the podcasts Outside and The Daily Rally (Outside Magazine); Climate With Kiana (independent); Home Base Nation (Mass General Hospital),;and The Axe Files With David Axelrod (CNN). Additional engineering and field production work can be found with Person of the Week podcast (TIME Studio), NPR, Freakonomics Radio, Penguin Random House, Gimlet, the Wall Street Journal, Crooked Media, and An Arm and A Leg podcast.
