Linda Dowdell
Biography
With roots in both jazz and classical music, Linda toured the world from 1988-98 as musical director of both Mikhail Baryshnikov’s White Oak Dance Project and the Mark Morris Dance Group. Award winning musical theatre composer/lyricist; Meet the Composer; James Irvine Foundation; BMI Harrington Award. Her music has been described as ‘an eclectic vein of high jazz; she plants words with exceptional clarity and to great effect’ (Financial Times); ‘… style: elegant, free-wheeling, economical’ (The Sunday Times, London); ‘… an unflagging, unflinching, buoyant sense of rhythm’ (Boston Globe). Bandleader: Friends of Brubeck. Composer/lyricist: Spirit of the Yule, Strictly No Elephants. Arranger: Tin Pan Lady. Currently musical director at Key City Public Theatre in Port Townsend, WA.
