  • Biography

Laurie Flanigan Hegge is a playwright, librettist, lyricist, and theatre artist from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Originally an actor and improvisor, she began writing musicals as a long-time company member at Northern Sky Theatre in Door County, Wisconsin, a company which produces all-original work for intergenerational audiences, including her first musical LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS (co-writer, book & lyrics), and commissions SEE JANE VOTE (book & lyrics) with composer James Kaplan, and most recently BOXCAR (book & lyrics, with composer James Valcq). She moved to Minneapolis in 2003 and joined the Nautilus Music Theatre Composer-Librettist Studio, finding mentorship and community the moment she arrived. She calls History Theatre in St. Paul, where she currently serves as Artistic Associate, her artistic home. Since 2007, History Theatre has premiered five of Laurie’s new works: HORMEL GIRLS (book & lyrics, with composer Hiram Titus), TWENTY DAYS TO FIND A WIFE (book and lyrics, with composer and maestra Marya Hart, TALES ALONG THE MINNESOTA TRAIL, (book & lyrics with composer Marya Hart), SWEET LAND, the musical (with maestras: co-writer Perrin Post and composer Dina Maccabee), and most recently, DIRTY BUSINESS (book & lyrics), a collaboration with Tony-nominated orchestrator and composer Robert Elhai.
