Biography

Laurel Haines lives in NYC and is a lyricist, bookwriter, and playwright. She is the co-writer and lyricist of Simon and His Shoes, a musical about a pair of shoes who run out on their owner because he never leaves the house (Stephanie Singer, composer and co-bookwriter). Other shows include Marisol: The Mail-Order Country Music Star (Ben Boecker, composer and co-lyricist) and Stones of Wisdom, commissioned by First Stage Children’s Theatre and performed at the Milwaukee SummerFest (Max Samson, composer). The Dianalogues, her play about the public’s obsession with Princess Diana, has been produced across the U.S. and in Canada, South Africa, and the U.K., and is published by Smith & Kraus. Her play Future Anxiety was developed by the Lark Play Development Center and was produced by the Flea Theater with 20+ Bats.

Awards: Jerry Harrington Award For Outstanding Creative Achievement in Musical Theatre (with Stephanie Singer. 2017) and the Jean Banks Award for Best 10-Minute Musical (with Eric Allen, 2016) (BMI).

Laurel is a member of the BMI Advanced Musical Theatre Workshop, the BMI Librettists Workshop, and the Dramatists Guild.
