Biography

Hey there! I’m Katie Horner, I’m a Philadelphia-grown, NYC-based actor, musician, composer, and music director. I have a B.A. in Theatre (Musical Theatre and Acting, with a certificate in Classical Voice) from Temple University, summa cum laude.

Currently a member of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop as a composer.

As an actor, I’ve performed regionally at houses like Paper Mill Playhouse, North Shore Music Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre, ZACH Theatre, and Mill Mountain Theatre; I’ve also toured nationally with Buddy- The Buddy Holly Story, which was my introduction to all things actor-musician.

I play piano at an advanced level, can read and sightread music and lead sheets, I play the trumpet at an advanced level in both jazz and orchestral styles, and I play the guitar, mandolin, and ukulele at intermediate levels.

I’ve music directed for companies like Theatre Horizon, 1812 Productions, Lantern Theatre Company, and Philadelphia Fringe. I also have experience teaching and coaching through Arden Theatre Company and The University of the Arts.

My compositions have been performed and commissioned by Theatre Horizon, Temple University Singers, and other Philadelphia organizations. My singer-songwriter material can be streamed anywhere under the name Kay Rose.

My artistic philosophy is rooted in joyful community service. The act of theatre-making is a communal one and I believe that, in both theme and practice, theatre should service the community that created it. I believe in making theatre that advocates for social justice in its themes and in its words, but also embodies social justice with every performance, so that the physical, literal act of doing the play every night makes a daily communal practice of equity, inclusion, compassion, and togetherness.
