Joanna M Sisk-Purvis
I am music director of the Durham Savoyards and the Stone Soup Theatre Company, and have musically directed for youth and community theaters in Los Angeles and North Carolina, for shows including Something Rotten, Cabaret, Oliver!, Fiddler on the Roof, Sound of Music, Narnia, Alice in Wonderland, Annie, Cats, Seussical Jr., and more. During the pandemic, I edited together 60+ vocal and instrumental audio tracks for the acclaimed 2021 virtual production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s Patience.
I have performed as flutist with orchestras and chamber ensembles, and for theatrical productions in Los Angeles, Chicago, and the Triangle. In L.A., I ran a new music ensemble and commissioned and performed music from several now well-known composers, including Andrew Norman, Vincent Ho, and Bear McCreary. I also composed the score for the full-length documentary “Iroquois Rising.”
I hold flute performance degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill (BM), Northwestern (MM), and the University of Southern California (DMA), where I also studied conducting and composition. I love sharing the joy of music and musical theatre with people of all ages, and have been a music educator for most of my career.
