Combining classical training with calculated lyricism, Jennifer Hedstrom is a dynamic performer whose songs extend the full range of darkness to light. Her recordings and dramatic live performances have earned her comparisons to artists such as Regina Spektor, Joni Mitchell, Sara Bareilles, and Amanda Palmer. Raised in the Chicago suburbs, Jennifer has been based out of Madison, WI since 2010. Her debut album, Bodies of Water, was released soon after her move to Madison. Her sophomore album, Prairie, was released in January 2018 and is now available on most streaming platforms. The title track, “Prairie,” was featured on the 2017 Dane Arts Buy Local Compilation.
A versatile musician with two degrees worth of formal studies, Jennifer Hedstrom has made a career in Madison as a singer-songwriter, composer, pianist, piano teacher, and music director. Jennifer Hedstrom serves as the music director for educational theater troupe, Whoopensocker. As the music director for this organization, Jennifer has composed original underscoring and songs for stories written by area 3rd and 4th graders. Jennifer is an Artistic Associate with Music Theatre of Madison and serves frequently as a music director and pianist for their productions. Jennifer will compose music and lyrics for her first original musical Ten Days in a Madhouse as part of MTM’s Wisconsin New Musicals Cycle. The first reading will take place in December 2019.
