  • Biography

    Georgia Barnes works as a composer and director specialising in theatrical works. She studies Composition and Vocal Performance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance under Edward Jessen, Errollyn Wallen, Deirdre Gribbin and voice under Linda Hirst. Her work focuses on blending contemporary chaos and classical order. Georgia’s music has been described as exhibiting ‘pockets of richness’ that ‘gains in rhythmic complexity,’ (Stephen Fry).

    In 2020, Georgia worked with Tête à Tête opera festival to produce A Time of Empty Tales, one of the first operas to be produced after the pandemic. She was also awarded a place on the British Youth Opera directing scheme and studied under Elaine Kidd and Oliver Mears. She is currently Assistant Directing Ed Jessen’s Syllable with Joseph Alford, working on a Christmas commission for London Mozart Players at Fairfield Halls, Let the Carols Ring, and a Christmas Commission for Woldingham School in Westminster Cathedral.

    ​ In November 2021, Georgia was commissioned by the Royal Opera House to write a micro-opera - Everything you Carry - as part of the Lost and found project. This was a collaboration with the Jette Parker Young Artists, and the Casco Phil as part of the Europalia Festival. This was premiered in March 2022 at St Pancras Station for International Women's Day.

    Georgia sings weekly as a choral singer at St Margaret’s Church, Lee Terrace in Blackheath. She has worked on vocal collaborations
    with Loré Lixenberg, Alwynne Pritchard and mentored by Linda Hirst. Georgia was a finalist in the Daryl Runswick Competition.
    Georgia’s next performance is with singer Helene Matthieson at Toulouse Lautrec on the 7th April for an evening of Jazz and Cabaret
    through the ages. She also teaches piano and voice, and has previously taught Composition at the Thomas Tallis school in Blackheath.
    She also works for Venus Blazing, at the Park Theatre as a mentor for children with intellectual disabilities.
