A multi-instrumentalist, Dawn has performed in a wide range of genres from the ancient to post-modern. Ms. Webster can currently be heard performing on voice, horn, baritone/euphonium, flute, clarinet, recorders, cornetto, and trumpet, her main instrument.
Current projects include Eastern European groups Galata Ensemble and the West Philadelphia Orchestra, Polkadelphia, and Swing That Cat (jump blues/swing revival). She has made solo appearances as a recitalist and on Philadelphia's Bowerbird, Cybersounds, and SciFi Philly new music series. She has appeared with many local orchestras including the Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra and Lancaster and Reading Symphony Orchestras, and with Piffaro, the Renaissance Band.
Ms. Webster had the opportunity to commence formal studies in high school with jazz/rock trumpeter, Steve Jankowski (Blood, Sweat, and Tears; Nile Rogers/Chic, Chicago). She attended Rutgers University in New Jersey for her undergraduate studies in trumpet and environmental geology. Her teachers there included Peter Bond (MET Opera) and Kevin Cobb (American Brass Quintet) on trumpet, and Kynan Johns and Patrick Gardner for conducting. Her graduate work was in trumpet with David Bilger (Philadelphia Orchestra) at Temple University, where she also studied conducting with Luis Biava.
In her spare time she works as an acupuncturist and is an accomplished long-distance hiker.
