Britton Matthews
Biography
Britton Matthews is a NYC-based percussionist active in musical theater and contemporary chamber music. She serves as percussion faculty at Molloy University, where she has taught since 2011.
Britton is currently a percussion sub for SIX on Broadway (Brooks Atkinson Theatre) and a drum sub for Little Shop of Horrors (Westside Theatre). She has previously subbed drums with the Yiddish revival of Fiddler on the Roof (Stage 42, NYC), The Nutty Professor (Ogunquit Playhouse, Ogunquit, ME), Group! The Musical (Passage Theatre, NJ), and The Hello Girls (Symphony Space, NYC).
Recent notable performances include the 2021 Joyce Theatre Season with Parsons Dance, Wordless Music's East Coast tour of Riceboy Sleeps, featuring Jónsi and Alex Somers, Terrence Malick's The Voyage of Time (BAM, NY), and the NYC premiere production of Phillip Pulman's The Firework Maker’s Daughter (New Victory Theater, NY).
As a member of Exit 9 Percussion Group, Britton has performed extensively across the country, presenting hundreds of clinics in schools and community centers. Exit 9 is ensemble-in-residence at Mason Gross School of the Arts’ Extension Division.
Britton received her Master of Music degree from Rutgers University, and her Bachelor of Music Education from Baylor University. She has studied with many notable percussionists, including Bob Becker, She-e Wu, Chris Deviney, Todd Meehan and Dr. Larry Vanlandingham.
