Brenda Varda

Biography

Brenda Varda writer/composer, director, and coach working in theatre, music and new media. As a director in theatre and concerts, she works with singers and bands bringing stories to life through music. In original works, exploring the unspoken, difficult, and complex, Varda has crafted numerous performance and scores. Recent productions include: EST One-Acts, The Birds, The Future Perfect, Of Government, Paderewski, A Wasted Evening with Tom Lehrer, solo shows This is My Garbage and and Nine Dresses. She has worked with many Los Angeles theatre companies, including Sacred Fools, The Met, and Unknown Theatre – and her work as a writer and performer has received awards, nominations and grants from several organizations.
Her work in education and coaching includes both music and writing, and through Singers Workout LA and Wordspace, along with college teaching and guest artist contracts, she has worked with hundreds of artists to foster new ideas and improve excellence. She has also worked with Caltech on several arts and science projects, and usually develops and/or directs one project there per year, while also working with the Caltech community on music performance and new projects.
She is currently pursuing a PhD in Creative Psychology and has and M.F.A. in Creative Writing (UCR) and a B.A. in Theatre and Communications.
