Ayda Akbal is a composer, songwriter, and producer based in Melbourne, Australia. She is passionate about exploring human emotion and culture in her work. Her music has created opportunity for her that she is immensely grateful for, recently travelling to the US after being accepted into New York University’s Film-Scoring Summer Intensive and earning a fully funded place at APRA AMCOS’ Screen Music Songhubs based in South Australia.
Ayda grew up in the theatre world performing both on stage and in the orchestra pit throughout her school years, and continues to foster her love for music – recently participating in Pasek & Paul’s Monthly Musical Theatre Songwriting Course.
She works regularly as a composer and arranger for theatre, with her collaboration on a musical premiering at DePaul University in Chicago, in 2022. She also collaborates with various theatre makers in Melbourne, with her soundtrack to ‘A Play About Ivy’ premiering at Melbourne’s Fringe Festival (2022).
As an artist, Ayda is proud of her debut album release, ‘Magic’, which she composed, performed, recorded, produced, and sound-engineered all on her own. She was delighted to receive a 4/5 star review from Divide and Conquer Music.
After her album release, Ayda was asked to write a feature song for the documentary MY SISTER LIV (2022) which has featured at various festivals, including DOC NYC.
Her first documentary working as a composer, ‘Putty’s Pride’, premiered at the Coast Film Festival in California, and the Melbourne/Sydney Lift-Off Festival (2021).
Additionally, Ayda composes commercially for various social media and KickStarter campaigns.
Ayda can’t wait to see where her music will take her next.
