Allison Spann is a Brooklyn-based anti-genre, anti-disciplinary creator who believes in the power of voice and collaborative art-making as a radical tool for healing. She has worked as a vocalist in opera, jazz, theater, and contemporary music, as a stage/film actor, a composer for theatrical and recorded works, a music director, sound designer, director, choreographer, and enjoys sliding into whatever role a collaborative project requires.
She graduated with a degree in Music from Princeton University in 2020 with Certificates in Theater, Music Theater, and Vocal Performance, and is an alumnus of Carnegie Mellon’s Pre-College Program in Music Theater. She is the creator of two original evening-length pieces of music theater, Water Play and Masquerade, for which she was the recipient of the 2019 Richardson Artist in Residence position, and which she continues to develop. She is the Winner of the 2020 Princeton Concerto Competition as a solo soprano, and recently released her debut album, sp(inner)ace, under the artist name ALL. IS. ON. She works as a personal assistant to composer/vocalist Bora Yoon, and teaches private voice and piano. She has worked with Gustavo Dudamel, Bobby McFerrin, Caroline Shaw, Archie Shepp, Billy Childs, Darcy James Argue, Rob Kaplowitz, Carolann Page, Paul Bogaev, and Gabriel Crouch, among others.
