The School of Music, Theatre, and Dance seeks a part-time, non-student-hourly Music Director for the summer program, Kids Do It All. Each week, the music director helps children ages 7-14 write 3 original songs for their original plays. At the end of the week, the MD also serves as accompanist for rehearsals and performances.

Duty/Responsibility
Monday – Wednesday: Take charge of the three “Music” rotation of the camp in the afternoons. This develops from a basic intro to music and an assessment of the group’s skills to an introduction to melody and song-building, plus assisting with writing lyrics to original songs. Compose music/lyrics that fit the playwrights’ themes of the children’s play. Each week the composer writes three songs, one for each age group ranging from 2nd & 3rd grade, 4th & 6th grade, and 6th, 7th & 8th grade. Help the playwright decide the best place to insert the song in the story’s progression. Attend daily staff meeting at the end of the work day. Song should be relatively finished by Wednesday evening. Hours are roughly 1:00pm-3:30pm plus 2-4 hours of individualized composition time.
Thursday – Teach children the song, complete with verses and chorus. Create recordings of accompaniment (or with children singing) for directors so they can rehearse throughout the next couple days. Hours are 9:50am – 2:00pm with a 1 hour lunch break.
Friday – Spend most of the day as accompanist, playing with the children as they put the full production together with tech. Give notes to kids and directors on execution of songs. Hours are 9:20am-3:15pm with a 30 minute lunch break and other 15 minute breaks.
Saturday – Accompany children in their dress rehearsal. Perform the three plays for friends and family. You will be introduced at some point during the performance, so wave and smile. Hours are 8:15am-11:30am.

An ideal candidate can work all or most of the weeks throughout the camp’s duration. The weeks are as follows:
