SCOPE AND CORE DUTIES
The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, supportive individual who is comfortable providing
musical direction from the piano and working collaboratively with composers, librettists and
singers. The C&V MD will attend monthly Music Sessions (eight 3-hour sessions, all Monday
evenings) alongside the rest of the C&V Music Staff from September 2021 through April 2022,
and will be responsible for preparing two songs per session, and scheduling coachings in
advance with the singers involved. In addition, the C&V MD will participate in two public
performances within the program: First Glimpse (featuring songs from the year) on May 21-22,
2022 and Six Scenes (featuring new short scenes) in January 2023 (or TBD). The C&V MD will
report to the C&V Artistic Director and C&V Head of Music.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
● Previous experience in music direction and collaborative piano, specifically with
● Appreciation for traditional and contemporary opera and art song, and the stylistic
breadth covered within
● Ability to learn music quickly, coach singers on diction, musical accuracy and stylistic
character, and offer constructive feedback to composers and librettists.
● New York City area residency (or willingness to commute) required.
