Job Description

The Mercy Velvet Project is a musical experience, a re-creation of the 1999 album Live in Vain, by Mercy Velvet. The work explores what makes us human, and embraces our fragile humanity—with musicians and dancers moving as one. The show tells the story of the album through tap dance as percussion, contemporary dance, original text, and instrumentation via bass, guitar, violin, and vocals—highlighting our vulnerabilities, learning together how not to live in vain.

We (Alexis Robbins - choreographer/director, and Christie Echols - musical director) are searching for a lead vocalist for The Mercy Velvet Project who is proficient in rock-n-roll and has musical theater experience. Requirements include memorizing music, moving/learning choreography, singing significantly as a soloist but also with other group members. Must be able to collaborate with other multidisciplinary artists. This will be a funky indie/rock musical with tap and contemporary dance at the forefront. Looking for artists that are willing to improvise, collaborate, explore, sing, AND speak. Please email [email protected] if interested and available for listed dates.

Rehearsals: February 18 in NYC, February 24/25 in New Haven, March 10/11 in New Haven, April 13/14 in NYC, April 26th in New Haven, May 11 and 17th in NYC.
Shows: April 27th in New Haven, May 18th in NYC, November 15th in NYC.

BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ encouraged to apply.
