Job Description

Boston Conservatory at Berklee (BCB) is seeking a full-time music director and teaching artist to join a theater faculty composed of distinguished professionals augmented by nationally known guest artists to teach in our B.F.A. musical theater program. Appointment to begin September 1, 2023. This is a nine month full time position. Rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.

The successful applicant will teach classes in our musical theater performance curriculum. They will have demonstrated excellence in teaching, curricular and pedagogical innovation, and collaboration. The ideal candidate will be able to speak directly to their ability to teach students of varied identities and backgrounds, with diverse interests and career goals within the genre. Full-time faculty members are expected to teach in person, attend division-sponsored performances when possible, attend faculty meetings, and serve on committees as assigned. Faculty are also strongly encouraged to collaborate pan-institutionally to actualize the vision and mission of BCB.

Areas of expertise may include: acting for the musical theater stage, audition techniques, CCM styles, voice science/vocal pedagogy, music directing, conducting, orchestrating, arranging, and songwriting. The ideal candidate is a visionary committed to re-imaging and reframing canonized works, creating a culture of inclusion and belonging for our increasingly diverse student body, and maintaining continued professional development activities.

Qualifications:

An advanced degree in music, dramatic arts, or equivalent background is required. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree must demonstrate significant professional and/or teaching experience.

A high level of piano and vocal coaching skills with a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience at the regional, national, or international level.

A comprehensive knowledge of musical theater repertoire and styles with a desire to explore new and emerging works, trends, and pedagogies.

Teaching experience in higher education with previous curriculum design and assessment experience is highly desired.

A commitment to student's career preparation and professional development.

A strong student advocate with a track record of mentoring and guiding students to institutional resources as needed.

Additional Qualifications:

A desire to develop and maintain a visible regional, national, or international profile as a music director, conductor, or vocal coach.

Training or demonstrated excellence promoting vocal health particularly in contemporary commercial styles.

Evidence of strong organizational and administrative skills.

Knowledge of emerging technologies and student Learning Management Systems (Canvas, Google Classroom, Merlin, Blackboard, etc.).
