Maestra Summer Internship

MAESTRA MUSIC is seeking three summer interns for our Administrative, Programming, and Get To Work projects respectively.


Are you interested in spending your summer working with a young non-profit organization committed to serving women and nonbinary theatre musicians? Join Maestra’s team! Term: June-August/September 2022. Negotiable.


College credit or stipend available. Current enrollment in a college program is encouraged but not required. Schedule is flexible. 10-15 hours per week. A $1500 stipend will be provided. Women/Non-Binary/People of Color are strongly encouraged to apply.

Our summer interns will be involved in the daily operations of the organization. Our work includes the Directory at the center of our website (www.maestramusic.org), regional and online community groups, DEIA training and resources, a data project related to GetToWork.org, the Maestra Mentorship program, technical workshops, and ongoing fundraising efforts and awareness campaigns.


Most of our work this summer will continue to be online via Zoom, but we do have an office in NYC and are hoping to offer some in-person events. Location in NYC is preferred for our Administrative intern and is optional for the Programming and Get To Work internships.


Maestra uses Google Suite, Photoshop, Adobe, iMovie/Final Cut, Bloomerang, Dropbox, Facebook/Twitter/Instagram, MailChimp, Vimeo, Slack, Zapier, and Asana. Familiarity with at least some of these programs is helpful.


Ideal candidates will have:

  • Interest in nonprofit work, community building, and music, as well as a commitment to social justice and ongoing gender and racial equity efforts
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • An ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Willingness to speak up and share ideas and expertise in meetings
  • A collaborative spirit and a sense of fun

The Administrative Intern will work alongside our Administrative Assistant in the service of the Board and the membership. This intern will have a hand in the day-to-day tasks of running a non-profit including management and fundraising efforts.


Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Attending meetings at various times and taking notes
  • Creating and assisting with social media scheduling, posting, graphic design, captioning, and video editing
  • Maintaining and improving the Maestra website
  • Assisting with the creation of our weekly newsletter
  • Developing content for the Maestra blog
  • Managing contacts and emails in our database and within the Directory
  • Working with data including data entry, proofreading, spreadsheet management, photocopying, updating and organizing files and charts
  • Researching grants, corporate giving, and other development opportunities 
  • Assisting with event planning, which may include placing orders, handling correspondence, attending meetings, running errands, etc.
  • Coordinating volunteers

Ideal candidate has:

  • Very strong writing and proof-reading skills, design skills a plus

The Programming Intern will work in tandem with our Chief Program Officer on supervising, strategizing, and leading our programs into the fall. Programs include Maestra Education, Maestra Care, the Virtual Technical Workshop Series, and our Regional/Affinity Groups. Our Programming Intern will also help maintain and improve Maestra’s website features including our blog, Directory, and Jobs Board. 


Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Attending meetings at various times and taking notes
  • Maintaining and improving the Maestra website
  • Developing content for the Maestra blog
  • Managing contacts and emails for our programs
  • Working with data including data entry, proofreading, spreadsheet management, updating and organizing files and charts
  • Assisting with event planning, which may include placing orders, handling correspondence, attending meetings, running errands, etc.
  • Coordinating volunteers

Ideal candidate has:

  • Strategic thinking and connections to other musicians and theatre programs

The Get To Work Intern will focus on the development of our Get To Work Initiative, which aims to create equity and accessibility in the extended Broadway community. Get To Work gathers resources to provide the public with toolkits and other best practices curated by our partners in order to educate and activate those who wish to be part of a more inclusive future for the theatre. Our Get To Work intern will also assist our DEIA committee and our data project team, who are working to gather demographic data on music-makers in the theatre industry.


Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Attending meetings at various times and taking notes
  • Analyzing, evaluating, condensing, and reporting on data 
  • Creating and assisting with social media scheduling, posting, graphic design, and video editing
  • Maintaining and improving the Get To Work website
  • Managing contacts and emails for our Get To Work community partners
  • Developing content for the Maestra blog
  • Working with data including data entry, proofreading, spreadsheet management, photocopying, updating and organizing files and charts
  • Assisting with DEIA event planning, which may include placing orders, handling correspondence, attending meetings, running errands, etc.
  • Coordinating volunteers

Ideal candidate has:

  • Interest in research and familiarity with data science and/or statistics, commitment to DEIA
