Maestra is seeking two Summer Interns!

MAESTRA MUSIC is seeking two Summer Interns: one intern for Maestra Operations and one intern for RISE Theatre

Are you interested in spending your summer working with a young non-profit organization committed to serving women and nonbinary theatre musicians? Join Maestra’s team! 

Term: June 2024 – August 2024. (Exact dates are negotiable.)

We are seeking current college students whose schools offer college credit or who are part of a program providing a stipend through your institution. Schedule is flexible, but 10-15 hours per week is expected. Women/Nonbinary/People of Color are strongly encouraged to apply.

Our work includes the Directory at the center of our website (www.maestramusic.org), regional and online community groups, DEIA training and resources, RISE Theatre (www.risetheatre.org), the Maestra Mentorship program, technical workshops, and ongoing fundraising efforts and awareness campaigns.

This internship will be hybrid, partly remote with scheduled Zoom meetings and tandem staff work and partly in-person at our midtown Manhattan office and at events in NYC. Location in the greater NYC area is necessary.

The Maestra Intern will work with all Directors of Maestra (Development, Marketing & Communications, Operations & Events, and Programming) on project-based assignments throughout the summer. The intern will get firsthand experience with strategizing and leading our programs, creating Summer and Fall content, researching grant and stewardship opportunities, planning and executing events, and the day-to-day tasks of running a non-profit including management and fundraising efforts.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Attending meetings at various times and taking notes
  • Maintaining and updating the Maestra website
  • Creating graphics and video content for newsletters, social media, and physical marketing materials
  • Posting and scheduling social media content
  • Managing contacts and emails
  • proofreading
  • Working with data including data entry, spreadsheet management, and updating and organizing files and charts
  • Developing content for the Maestra blog
  • Managing contacts and emails for our programs
  • Assisting with event planning, which may include placing orders, handling correspondence, attending meetings, running errands, etc.
  • Coordinating volunteers
  • Researching grants, corporate giving, and other development opportunities 

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Interest in nonprofit work, community building, music, and theater, as well as a commitment to social justice and ongoing gender and racial equity efforts
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills
  • Ability to manage deadlines, take initiative, and work independently
  • Familiarity with basic graphic design skills
  • Experience working with Mailchimp, Canva, Photoshop, Adobe, iMovie/Final Cut, and Facebook/X/Instagram/TikTok/YouTube.
  • Willingness to speak up and share ideas and expertise in meetings
  • A collaborative spirit and a sense of fun
  • Strategic thinking and connections to other musicians and theatre programs

The RISE Theatre Intern will focus on the programming and maintenance of our RISE Theatre program. RISE (Representation, Inclusion, and Support for Employment) builds a more equitable and inclusive theatre industry by centralizing DEIA tools and resources through a network of partners and a national personnel directory that focuses on folks from underrepresented backgrounds, including but not limited to people of color, women, trans, nonbinary, deaf, and disabled theatre professionals.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Working under the RISE Theatre Program Manager to provide administrative support 
  • Attending meetings at various times and taking notes
  • Tracking all tasks following our meetings through our Asana boards
  • Creating and assisting with social media scheduling, posting, graphic design, and video editing
  • Monitoring and responding to emails that come into the RISE Theatre Directory support email 
  • Weekly maintenance of the Network Partners Event Calendar 
  • Managing contacts and emails for our RISE Theatre Network partners
  • Analyzing, evaluating, condensing, and reporting on industry data 
  • Working with data including data entry, proofreading, spreadsheet management, photocopying, updating and organizing files and charts
  • Assisting with RISE community events, which may include placing orders, handling correspondence, attending meetings, running errands, etc.
  • Coordinating volunteers

Ideal candidates will have:

  • Interest in research and familiarity with data science and/or statistics, commitment and passion for promoting and cultivating  DEIA practices in the theatrical industry.

    I’d be very interested in this opportunity but live/work/study in Miami, FL. I would be more than happy to commute possibly every other week (I currently work remote Thursday-Wednesday every other week) and would also be fine with taking days off of work to come in as needed.

    If there are any remote or short ‘project-based’ opportunities in the future, I’d love to learn and grow within this wonderful organization. Thank you for your time!
